A Resolution Worth Keeping

A Resolution Worth Keeping

While most New Year’s resolutions are worth keeping. Those associated with your happiness, health and wealth should receive priority. And, necessarily, as a personal financial planner, I have to advocate for those resolutions relating to your financial security. If you have peace of mind surrounding your financial situation, it makes dealing with the other obstacles life throws your way less overwhelming.

The basics are:

  • Getting your debt eliminated or under control, while always true, this is especially true as you near retirement.
  • Identifying your financial priorities and goals and figuring out what you need to do to reach those goals.
  • Establishing an emergency fund as a safety net for you and your family.
  • Saving for retirement.
  • Managing your investments prudently.
  • Making sure that you have the right types of insurance and the proper amount of coverage. Some people carry more than they realistically need while many of us are underinsured.
  • Getting our estate plan created and implemented.

It’s fine to handle these items on your own if you have the knowledge. However, be sure that you understand how these items interact with one another. As a fee-only financial planner, this is where I can provide value. I can help create the overall plan or only the portions with which you need assistance. Feel free to contact me if you have questions about how I can help you keep your financially related New Year’s resolutions.
